Why?

The crack in the jaw

Loud stillness

Take a breath

Pain only lasts a second. A long painful second

But it's only a second, right?

The stillness sends shivers down my spine

My toes curl as I brace for impact

Crack

Silence looms over my shoulder waiting for a second to break through

And it starts again.
